A car crashed into a holiday parade in Wisconsin, turning the triumphant return of the annual Christmas event into chaos. A few hours later, people began to pay tribute to the five victims.
The four victims of the Sunday night incident in Waukesha belonged to the “Milwaukee Dancing Granny”, a dance group composed of local grandmothers that has been the mainstay of the Wisconsin holiday parade for nearly 40 years.
According to the Milwaukee Sentinel, three of the victims-79-year-old Ginny Sorenson, 71-year-old LeAnna Owen, and 52-year-old Tamara Durand-were members of the organization, and 81-year-old Wilhelm Hospel helped the organization.

After the riots, the organization issued a statement stating that the victims “are doing what they like to do, performing in front of the marching crowd.”

At the same time, the local branch of Citizens Bank issued a statement stating that an employee was “walking with our parade float” when he was shot and killed.
On Monday night, hundreds of people gathered at the crash site to hold a candlelight vigil in memory of the victims. The police said a 39-year-old man, Darrell Brooks, rammed an SUV into the parade. The crowd, leading to the death of the victims.
“Last night, this was a tragedy that no community should experience. David Sorenson’s wife, who has served as the choreographer for the group for nearly 60 years, said that David Sorenson cherishes the time spent with the theater.
“What does she like? Everything,” her husband told the Milwaukee Sentinel. “She likes coaching. She likes women’s dance and friendship. She likes acting.”
He added: “She taught me to do cancan dance.”
