Female employees of Tesla Inc. face “rampant sexual harassment,” according to a lawsuit filed by a woman who works at the electric car manufacturer’s Fremont, California plant.

38-year-old Jessica Barraza (Jessica Barraza) said in a lawsuit filed in the Oakland State Court on Thursday that she had experienced “nightmarish” conditions when she was a night shift worker at Tesla, with colleagues and supervisors repeatedly Make obscene comments and gestures to her and other women for a week. Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Washington Post earlier reported on Baraza’s lawsuit.

At the time of the case, Tesla was already facing a $137 million sentence in favor of another worker who claimed to have experienced widespread racism at the Fremont factory. Tesla is now appealing the award.

A juror in the case told Bloomberg News that the team wanted to prompt Tesla executives to “take the most basic precautions and preventive measures. As a large company, they neglected to protect any employees in the factory.”

For many years, Tesla has been troubled by allegations of discrimination at the Fremont factory, but most employees are bound by an arbitration agreement, which keeps most complaints confidential.

According to data obtained from public records, in 2020, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing received 31 complaints accusing Tesla of discrimination in race, age, gender expression, disability, and pregnancy. In most cases, state agencies issued letters of right to prosecute; a few were closed due to insufficient evidence.
