General Motors resumes production of its 3.0-liter diesel inline six-cylinder engine

Known internally as LM2, there are six models available in Chevrolet’s Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado 1500 and the GMC versions of these trucks. This is also an option for Cadillac Escalade. It produces 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque similar to the V8 at 1,500 rpm in each application, which allows these large behemoths to publish surprising fuel economy data. Mounted on the rear-wheel-drive Tahoe, Duramax is 21 miles per gallon in the city, 28 miles per gallon on the highway, and 24 miles per gallon in the combined cycle. These figures make it more efficient than a suit jacket.

The demand for diesel-powered trucks is relatively high. Although the shortage has undoubtedly affected sales, in May 2021, Duramax accounted for 8% of Suburban sales and 6% of Tahoe sales. No other new diesel full-size SUVs are available, so they have their own market. In terms of trucks, Ram still offers EcoDiesel in approximately 1,500 models, but Ford has abandoned this market segment.
