2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo unveiled as a sexy electric wagon

Just because the Porsche Taycan is electric does not mean that it is not subject to the same menu of additional variants. These variants will be launched every year after new models or new generations are introduced. The basic version, 4S version and Turbo version have been launched, as well as cross-country, wagon-style Cross Turismo, the next batsman in the lineup is only a matter of time: 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS and Taycan GTS sports car.

Like other GTS models, the new Taycans is a more enthusiast-oriented choice, with more emphasis on control accuracy rather than full power. For this reason, the suspension hardware has continued, but calibration and adjustment are the special features of GTS, which Porsche said can improve response and enhance the sense of connection with the road. Adaptive air suspension, active suspension management, Porsche Torque Vectoring System Upgrade and Sport Chrono package are all included.

The rotor of the front brake is 390 mm, which is higher than the 360 mm in the 4S, but the calipers and the rear rotor are retained. You can also upgrade to surface-coated brakes with tungsten carbide coating or ceramic composite brakes.

Compared with other versions of the Taycan similar to the wagon body style, the new GTS Sport Turismo has further handling advantages because it does not increase the ride height by 20 mm compared to the sedan. It also lacks wheel arch cladding. This is why GTS is a sports Turismo instead of Cross Turismo. It can be said that this is also the reason why it looks more fashionable, especially the sexy carmine, which is the preferred paint choice for Porsche GTS models.

At the same time, roof rails and rack mounting hard points are still available, so Sport Turismo still offers additional versatility, even exceeding its maximum cargo space of 42.8 cubic feet.

As for performance, this is where the Taycan differs from other GTS versions. Generally, they are closer to S and the output only slightly increases. However, Taycan basically eliminates the atypically huge gap between 4S (462 horsepower) and Turbo (670 horsepower), with a total output of 590 horsepower. This is achieved by adding only the larger rear motor of Turbo, and achieves 3.5 seconds under 0-60 time (with start control). Again, this splits the difference between 3.8 seconds 4S and 3.0 seconds Turbo.

The battery is shared with Turbo and Turbo S. The latter is a 93.4 kWh “Performance Battery Plus” with an 800-volt architecture. With a fast charging capacity of up to 270kW, Porsche says it can charge from 5% to 80% in 22.5 minutes. The mileage estimates will be announced later, but considering the battery, they seem to be at least a bit better than Turbo’s 212 miles.

From the outside, like other GTS models, there are healthy black trim everywhere, including the exclusive satin black finish for the 20-inch Taycan Turbo S Aero Design wheels. Even the LED matrix headlights are black. In addition, Taycan’s high-gloss black Sport Design suit is usually priced at $6,040, which adds a unique front fascia, side skirts and rear diffuser.

The interior uses a unique suede-like Race-Tex interior on the 18-way seats, instrument panel, center console, steering wheel and roof lining. The optional GTS interior kit adds carmine (pictured) or chalk contrast stitching throughout the cabin, as well as matching seat belts and GTS embroidery on the headrest. “Matte carbon fiber” trims have been added to the center console, steering wheel and door trim.

The Taycan GTS sedan (including destination) starts at US$132,750 and the Sport Turismo starts at US$134,650. They can be ordered now and delivery is expected (or at least hopefully) in the second quarter of 2022.
